Heron and Terrapin
Strolling on my lunch break around Blessington Street basin which is former resevoir in the north inner city of Dublin, I spotted a beautiful Heron on the island. While adjusting my focus I was astonished to see a large Terrapin clamber out of the water onto the log on which the Heron was perched. When they eventually noticed each other there was a motionless stand off. As Terrapins are not native to Ireland it was obvious that the Terrapin was a discarded pet. I wondered what went through their minds. I was so glad I took my camera to lunch that day, although I really wished I had a longer lens.
