The Irish Brewers Association and the Irish Farmers Association met Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney at Heineken in Cork today to discuss the contribution that the brewing industry makes to the agricultural sector in Ireland and the support required from the Government.
.
Research from the Irish Brewers Association has shown that the brewing sector makes a significant contribution to the rural economy, supporting over 3,000 farming families across Ireland and spending Û400m purchasing goods and services.
.
The IBA are part of the ÒSupport Your LocalÉÓ campaign, urging the Government to reverse excise on alcohol, which would support jobs in the brewing sector and would have a positive knock on effect on farming families across the country. The beer industry have been subject to a 43% increase in beer excise duty in the last two budgets.
