The fifth and sixth class children from the Gaelscoil Chionn tSáile , Co Cork, who raised funds for the purchase of 200 sleeping bags which were donated to Cork Simon. Included are teachers, Caitríon Nic Fhannchadha and Aodán OMátharbhuí. On the 2nd of December, Rang 5 and Rang 6 from Gaelscoil Chionn tSáile held a cake sale on behalf of Cork Simon Community.
The parents of the children baked plenty of cakes for the day and there was tea, coffee, scones, Christmas cards and raffle tickets for sale as well. It took four weeks to organise and we were very happy with the end result. We put signs around Kinsale and we also put an add in the ‘Kinsale Advertiser’. Over one hundred people turned up on the day.
The event was held in the Temperance Hall and we were split into different groups. There was a group in charge of the raffle, a group selling cakes, a group making tea and coffee and there was also a few people singing outside the hall.
We had a great time and we managed to collect over €2,300! The school will now go shopping to buy resources for Cork Simon Community and the homeless people of Cork. Special thanks to Carol Nyhan, a parent in the school, for the help she gave us and also to the community of Kinsale for supporting our event.
