"Gougane Barra" in County Cork, The name comes from Saint Finbarr, who is said to have built a monastery on this island in the lake during the 6th century. Legend has it that St. Finbarr banished the great serpent Lú from this lake and in doing so, Lú created the channel which is now the River Lee... It's a part of who we are...
