PR ...Chairman of the Board of Management at Ashton School, Mr John Deane welcomed his fellow members of the Board, the invited guests, including the Guest Speaker journalist and author Clodagh Finn, parents and students to the Annual Prize-giving ceremony. 
A feature of the Awards day is the induction of a past pupil of the school into Ashton School's Hall of Fame. Mary Elmes was honoured posthumously this year. Mary Elmes' courageous story is of a woman who saved hundreds of children from Nazi concentration camps. Clodagh Finn related aspects of that incredible story which has now been told fully in her biography of Mary Elmes, A Time to Risk All published in 2017. It was a privilege to have Charlotte Berger-Grenech, George Kollein both survivors rescued by Mary Elmes attend the event . Accepting the award on behalf of Mary Elmes Charlotte Berger-Grenech spoke of the courage of Mary Elmes and reminded all the young people in front of her how important it is to read and understand history so as to prevent terrible things from happening again.
