Highlight Your Habitat is a project funded by Cork County Council's Arts Office and Environment section, in partnership with Cork Printmakers and Sirius Arts Centre. It also involved educational facilitators from the Irish Peatland Conservation Council and Fota Wildlife Park. As part of this project 164 fifth class students, from six national schools in Great Island, were given workshops in Drawing, Drypoint and Mono-Screenprinting in their schools. These workshops were facilitated by Cork Printmakers. Each school had 4 printmaking workshops and 2 workshops facilitated by the education officers from Fota Wildlife Park and The Irish Peatland Conservation Council.
The participating schools are: Cobh Mixed National School; Gaelscoil Sheán Uí Éigeartaigh; Bunscoil Rinn an Cabhraigh, Scoil Iósaef Naofa; St. Mary’s National School and Walterstown National School.
The aim of the project was to introduce students to the theme of biodiversity and to study their local habitat through active learning and to represent their learning visually through printmaking workshops. As well as learning new printmaking skills, the children were free to explore artistically, what they had learned about the habitats in their schools
