PRESS RELEASE...."Mr John Deane, Chairperson of the Board of Management, welcomed Mr Pat Mc Kelvey, representing the Co- patron of Ashton School, invited guests, parents as well as past and present pupils to this year's award ceremony. The Guest of Honour was past pupil Camille O'Sullivan.
Proceedings began with the Principal's address. Mr Adrian Landen reported on the activities and achievements of the past year across all areas of the school programme, both academic and extracurricular. This year's outstanding results in the Leaving Certificate were highlighted as evidence of positive teaching and learning in Ashton School. They point to the happy partnership between the commitment of Ashton students to their studies and their dedicated teachers. Other achievements receiving honorable mention were the €18,000 raised by students for various charities; the new work art by past student Eoin Turner installed in the General Purpose Area; four longstanding records broken on Sports Day as well as outstanding performances in chemistry, art, music and linguistics.
Assisted by Deputy Principal Anne Marie Hewison, Camille O'Sullivan presented the award winners with their prizes. Ms O'Sullivan later addressed the audience. She outlined to students her fond memories of her time in Ashton particularly for the friendships made and her supportive teachers. Ms O'Sullivan praised the school for giving her the opportunities throughout her time here to explore a wide range of interests, scholastic and extra curricular, which can be reflected in her circuitous career to date as a painter, architect, university lecturer, singer and actor. The many interests introduced to her in the school and the confidnce gained from doing them have stayed with her all her life. Camille expressed her immense gratitude firstly to her parents but to the staff and school for helping make her who she is today. She will always retain a deep fondness for Ashton" ENDS.
