Inventor of the game of Rugby who lived in Menton south of France at the end of his life and is buried in Le Viuex Chateau Cemetry Menton . On his grave there is a stone presented by Rugby school with the inscription This Stone Commemorates the exploit of William Webb Ellis Who with a fine disregard for the rules of football As played in his time First took the Ball in arms and ran with it Thus originating the Distinctive Feature of The Rugby Game ............. This sculpture is at the entrance to the Cemetery . |
