Talbot Group Announce Purchase of Oriel House Hotel

The four-star Talbot Hotel Group has today (June 4) announced the purchase of the only hotel in Ballincollig the four-star Oriel House Hotel in Cork.

The 78-bedroom hotel was re-developed in 2006 vastly increasing the size of the original 1800s period house and comprises of two bars, a restaurant, conference and banqueting facilities for up to 480 people and a leisure club featuring a 25m swimming pool and spa. Situated on over 2 acres the hotel has ample parking and grounds.

The group Managing Director of ten years, Philip Gavin, has made the purchase announcement. The Wexford based hotel group, which comprises of the Talbot Hotel Wexford, The Talbot Hotel Carlow and the Stillorgan Park Hotel in Dublin is owned by the Pettitt family. The group just last month announced the purchase of the Midleton Park Hotel and is currently investing over 1million in a refurbishment of bars, restaurant, function room and bedrooms of the Midleton property.

Commenting on the acquisition Managing Director of the Talbot Hotel Group Philip Gavin said, “The Oriel House Hotel is a property which sits completely on par with our other four-star properties across the Talbot Hotel Group. Over 25,000 people live in Ballincollig, this is the only hotel in the town and we are a short 15-minute drive from Cork City Centre and Kent train station, which has an hourly service to Dublin. This move makes complete business sense for us and we are looking forward to driving our business further in Cork, We have some great plans in the pipeline to develop the hotel and it services for hotel guests and the people of Ballincollig.”

In January 2014 The Oriel Hotel was announced for sale with an asking price of €6million on the instruction of Kieran Wallace, Receiver, KPMG. Mr Gavin says the purchase of The Oriel House Hotel by the Talbot Group secures the future of the Hotel and the future of its employees.

According to Mr Gavin the Talbot Hotel Group have plans to continue to develop the business, “We have 120 staff at the Oriel House Hotel and these jobs are now secured by this purchase. At the Oriel House Hotel we are planning to continue to maintain the four-star standard and apply the Talbot Hotel group standards and customer service ethos. We look forward to welcoming guests old and new to the Oriel House Hotel.

The Talbot Hotel Group currently employs over 480 people at their Wexford, Carlow, Dublin and Cork based hotels.

ENDS – June 4 - 2014.
