press release:
9th Kerry Way Cancer Research Gets Under Way
Organisers hope to raise €50k for cancer research projects Hundreds of walkers have descended on the Kingdom for the 9th annual Kerry Way Cancer Research walk in aid of Breakthrough Cancer Research who fund cancer research programmes administered by Cork Cancer Research Centre.

The Kerry Way Cancer Research walk is a guided 70km walk over three days combining impressive mountain views, dramatic peaks and glens, wild moorlands, wooded paths and lakes along the Kerry Way trails. Challenging but fun, the great camaraderie on the route adds to the spectacular settings and ensures a truly memorable experience in the Kingdom.
Kerry footballing legend and Breakthrough Cancer Research ambassador, Pat Spillane was on hand to wave the walkers off on their trek. The walks over the three days include some of Irelands most fabulous walk ways Lauragh to Kenmare incorporating part of The Beara Way, Lough Inchiquin the Torc Waterfall and Esknamucky Glen, this year’s walk features the added element of a twilight boat trip on Friday evening across the beautiful Kenmare Bay, landing at Templenoe to start the walk to Kenmare.

Speaking at the starting point Orla Dolan, Breakthrough Cancer Research Fundraising Manager said “The Kerry Way Cancer Research Walk has gone from strength to strength raising over €650,000 for cancer research in the past nine years. Today’s walk turnout is testament to the popularity of the walk and also all the lives cancer effects, people want to play their part in the fight against cancer and we are delighted to have them here with us this weekend. We couldn’t run such an enjoyable walk without the dedicated fundraising committee and also all the sponsors who have so kindly helped us again this year, they include: Cuffe & Co Insurance Brokers, Heineken Ireland, Jenkinson Logistics LAYA Healthcare, Allfresh Wholesale Ltd, Butlers Chocolates, Bob Christie Flapjacks, Dunnes Stores (Bishopstown, Cork), Euro Medical and First Aid, Fyffes, General Mills U.K. Limited, Hallissey & Co, Hellenic, Johnson & Johnson, Lucozade Ireland, PepsiCo, , Keary's, Kellogg's, Sam Dennigan & Co., Supervalu Kenmare and Veronica’s Snacks”
