The former Garda station in Ballinskelligs has become the new home for the Kerry Dark Sky Reserve.
Dark Sky South Kerry is now recognised as one of the best places in the world to observe the Milky Way, after it was the first location in the northern hemisphere to achieve accreditation from the International Dark-Sky Association. The office in Dungegan will provide information to visiting star-gazers who will also be provided with a free sky map of the current night sky and instructions on how to use the map.
A basic astronomy class will be held there every Sunday and Wednesday. Parking outside the offices are also said to offer some of the best views of the dark sky reserve.
Photo shows the station with their new 'mascot' at the weekend.
