The jumps of Calum O'Regan (as Luigi), Robert Palmer (as SORA), and Samuel Roughton (as Itadori Yuuji) are judged by Rebecca Whelehan (as diligent administrator Miss Pauling) as they get ready for Kaizoko-Con.. More than 2,000 people will attend Kaizoko-Con, Cork’s largest convention of Science Fiction and Anime, at University College Cork (UCC) this weekend, starting on Friday, 12 April 2024. Organised by UCC students, this year’s convention is gearing up for its 10th anniversary celebration. Over three days, it will celebrate Japanese animation, manga and culture across panel discussions, workshops, music events, charity auction and a trade hall featuring artwork, books and collectibles. The event is set to draw cosplayers, people who dress up as much admired fictional characters, from across Ireland and abroad who are passionate about bringing their favourite characters to life. Attendees can expect to see a diverse array of intricately crafted costumes cosplays that showcase the creativity of the community. This year’s convention will feature leading voice actors Erica Mendez, Lucien Dodge and Ratana known for work across hit TV shows and video games including Demon Slayer Jujitsu Kaisen, Genshin Impact, Hunter x Hunter, and Fire Emblem. Mannan Nazar, UCC engineering student and Director of Kaizoko-Con, said: “Kaizoko-Con’s goal has always been to provide a family-friendly convention full of fun and enjoyment for all ages alike. We aim to create a space where everyone can come enjoy our events and learn a thing or two about crafts, have fun talking about their favourite shows and enjoy the full programme of special events.” “All our volunteers and committee members work on the convention out of love for what the event provides and we aim to create a better experience year and year for all attendees,” Mannan continued. “Kaizoko-Con has a long-standing relationships with local community artists, businesses and charities.
